Two Victims Named in Brown University Shooting as Authorities Persist in Hunt for Perpetrator.

Both young individuals who were killed in Saturday’s violent attack on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter continued following the release by Rhode Island officials of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the Ivy League university, according to relatives.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a memorial statement.

What Happened

Nine other people were injured in the violent event in the engineering department of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 arrested in a search at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “We know that this is likely to cause new worry for our city”.

The gunman opened fire inside a classroom in the engineering facility on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a authority told the Associated Press.

Police that raided the lodging found two firearms and magazines when the person of interest was detained, according to reports.

Those Hurt
