Teacher Killed and 25 Female Students Kidnapped in Firefight at Educational Institution in Nigeria
Weapon-carrying attackers have killed a teacher and seized a minimum of 25 learners in an assault against a female high school in north-western Nigeria, according to police.
The armed faction stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State at around 4 AM local time on the start of the week, authorities reported.
The attackers "exchanged fire with security forces on duty in a shootout" before breaching the school's outer barrier and taking the pupils captive from their hostel, authorities disclosed.
A school employee was fatally shot while defending the students. An additional employee received firearm injuries and is now receiving treatment.
Observers recounted a large group of attackers, referred to locally as criminal elements, who came shooting randomly to cause panic.
Local residents told reporters that the armed men then led a group of female students into nearby bushland.
The law enforcement confirmed they had positioned "extra specialized police forces, together with army members and community security teams" to the area.
